If you release the prisoner
and fight for the oppressed
If you remove their unjust chains
and let the slave go free, well then
Your light will break through like the dawn
If you would give the hungry bread
from the plenty that you have
And give the wanderer a home
and put clothing on his back
Then you will call and I will hear
You’ll cry for help and I will answer—Here I am
If you will lighten others’ loads
and free them from their yoke
If you illuminate their paths
and lead them out to freedom
Then I will guide you all your days
If you lay down your petty wars
and the hurtful things you say
And work for good for those in pain
and help to meet their needs, well then
Your light will rise up in the dark
Your night will turn into the brightness of the shining light of day
Speak up for those who cannot speak
and stand up for their rights
Stand up for those who cannot stand
and speak up for their rights
